Tip of the Week: Show The Way You Think
Potential employers want to see your creative process and the way you think. So when putting together or refreshing your portfolio, it is important for designers of all levels to include more than just the finished project. Tell the story. How did the idea develop? Be sure to be able to explain your decisions and why you chose certain concepts over others. Be able to answer the question why and back up your creative decisions.
I have seen a lot of portfolios! Some good, some bad. The strongest portfolios have all included ideation and creative process. Here are a few suggestions that can help your portfolio stand out. Bring a process book to flip through while you are presenting your portfolio. Include thumbnails of your sketches alongside the finished product. Show some of the rejected work that ended up on the cutting floor next to the winning piece. Show logo and font progressions.
